Shirley Marie McCarley

ADRIAN- Shirley Marie McCarley, age 74, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the Hospice of Lenawee Home surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born on May 21, 1952, in Adrian, Michigan, the youngest of Edwin and Rosamund (Barrs) Pratt’s six children. She lived her whole life in Adrian, graduating from Sand Creek High School, Class of 1970. On March 2, 1974, Shirley married her sweetheart, Jerry A. McCarley, and together they raised two sons and later became proud grandparents. Shirley worked at the Chemtura Corporation in Adrian for many years, primarily in the biolab department. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, baking delicious cookies, watching her favorite tv shows, Judge Judy and Little House on the Prairie. Shirley was a diehard Sand Creek Aggies fan and would listen to their football games on the radio. Shirley and Jerry enjoyed traveling to county fairs in the area and going to rummage sales. Shirley was an animal lover and was fortunate to have dogs throughout her life, with Bear being the best four-legged companion you could ask for. She also was blessed with two daughters-in-law that she treated as her own daughters. In addition to her husband, Jerry, Shirley is survived by her sons, Cory (Holly) McCarley and Christopher (April) McCarley; bonus children, John (Lisa) Betz and Jamie Timmerman; 7 grandchildren, Kaleb McCarley, Kyle McCarley, Tyler McCarley, Jonathon Betz, Wyatt Betz, Sarita Spooner and Briyanna Vanthof; nieces and nephews, Corey Pratt, Tracy Pratt, Cindy Pratt, Greg Pratt, Tim Pratt, Mike Pratt, Mark Pratt, Eric Prat, Debbie Hihnala, Murray Brown, Floyd Cole, Jason Ide and Brandon Ide. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Janet Bays, David Pratt, Patty Cole, Jerry Pratt and Marilyn Markwell. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 4-8:00 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian with Pastor Bruce Jewett officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of funeral services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ogden Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to her family.
