Richard Shepard

Jasper: Richard L. Shepard, 73 of Jasper has gone fishing in Heaven with Tyler and Chick. He was born on July 21, 1937 to Elmer and Mary (Carter) Shepard. On July 2, 1960, Richard married his wife of 50 years, Donna Peet at First United Methodist Church in Blissfield. Richard worked as a Journeyman Carpenter for 45 years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Michigan Regional Carpenter Union, Local 687 of Detroit, the Local 1301 of Monroe and also the Adrian Carpenters Local. He had a love for the outdoors like no other. When given the chance he would visit his daughter out west, and spend time at his cabin in Harrison, Michigan where he loved to spend summers fishing Cranberry Lake with his wife, children, grandchildren and fishing buddies, Bev and Larry Adams. Richard loved to travel with his wife all around the United States, stopping at casinos along the way. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to all who knew him and will be dearly missed. Surviving is his wife Donna Shepard of Blissfield; his children, Richard “Bub” (Sherry) Shepard of Blissfield, Judy (Mike) Shepard-Vaculik of Lyons, OH and Beverly Shepard of Prescott Valley, AZ; 3 grandsons, David, Jack and Samuel; his adopted son, Jack Smith of Jasper, MI; 2 sisters, June Staup of Blissfield and Fran (Ron) Beck of Petersburg and a sister-in-law, Joyce (Dave) Jacobs of Palmyra. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, James, Chuck and David Shepard; sister, Rose Herrick and most recently his beloved grandson, Tyler Baldwin Shepard. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Richard L. Shepard will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel in Blissfield with the Rev. Keith Smith officiating. Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 2-8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hospice of Lenawee or to a Charity of the Donor’s Choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
