Richard "Moose" Charles Haney

ADRIAN- Richard Charles Haney, “Moose” Born in Detroit, MI April 11, 1960, adopted by Thomas and Mary Haney of Adrian, MI where he lived his entire life. Graduated Adrian High School Class of 1979, then Ferris State College with an AA degree in Automotive Mechanics. After college he worked as a Lawn Specialist for Chem Lawn for several years. In 1988, he started working for Tecumseh Products as a Lab Technician where he quickly was given the name of Moose. He worked for the Products until his early retirement. He was a man of faith and a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Adrian, MI and served as Elder, Deacon, Choir, Committees and Activities. He loved his church and invited many friends who later became members. Moose loved working on cars, trucks, tractors, lawn mowers and small engines. His knowledge of small engines was incredible, he had a gift, he could lay his hands on an engine and it would be healed. He and his family restored his beloved 1929 Model A “Clarabelle” and was honored to drive it for many weddings and parades. He loved to travel and took many trips with friends and family across Michigan, the US, Canada and the UK. He especially loved the Beach and Lighthouses; he was proud to have climbed to the top of many lighthouses. One of his joys was to sit overlooking the beach in the still of the morning enjoying a cup of coffee. Moose could not go anywhere or do anything without making friends and many became lifelong friends. His friend’s children called him “Uncle Moose”. His tomb stone will read Richard Haney 1960-2026; it is said that our life is contained in the “dash” between the years; and in Richard’s life he touched the lives of many people and will be missed. Survived by his sister, Mary (Robert) Gilhouse of Riverside, CA; two Nephews, Zachary (Kayla) Gilhouse of CA and Benjamin Gilhouse of MI; grandniece/nephews, Chloe, William and Owen; Aunts, Joyce Ferguson of MI, Fern Damon of AZ and Jan Haney of WA; Companion, Becky Largin, many friends and adopted nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by this parents, Tom and Mary, grandparents, aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Richard may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Lenawee Humane Society. Visitation will be March 6, 2026 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Wagley Funeral home, Adrian, MI. Graveside Memorial service and interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Adrian. A Celebration of Life will be held April 12, 2026 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 156 E Maumee St, Adrian, MI 49221.
