Richard Grow

MANITOU BEACH – Richard C. ‘Dick’ Grow, age 79 of Adrian, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015, at the Hospice of Lenawee Home. He was born May 12, 1935, in Jackson, Michigan, the oldest of the nine sons of Cecil and Thelma (Perry) Grow. He graduated from Hanover-Horton High School. During the Korean Conflict, Dick served in the United States Navy. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Midwestern Baptist College. On December 27, 1983, Dick was married to Marie Vareille in Hillsdale, and they have been blessed with over 31 years together. Dick retired from the Hillsdale Post Office with 30 years of service. As a pastor, he started two churches, Rolling Hills Baptist Church in Hillsdale and Central Baptist Church in Clearwater Florida. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church where he served as an usher. In addition to his wife, Marie, he is survived by his children: Steven (Patricia) Grow of Columbiaville, MI; Karen (Joe) Pledger of Crossville, TN; Lynn (Rickey) Smith of Allardt, TN; Jill (Kelly) Sells of Jamestown, TN; James (Lorraine) Ryan of Jackson, and Marie “Ke Ke” Grow of Manitou Beach; brothers: Dave (Jan) of Hanover; Fred (Linda) of Jackson; Dale (Linda) of Hillsdale; and Jerry of California; grandchildren, Casey Ryan, Jill Grow, Caroline Terwilliger, Chad Pledger, Joy Keller, Jason VanWormer, Rebecca Bauerly, Brian VanWormer, Mandy Lands, Jake Sells, and Autumn, Jaida and Joseph Ryan; 17 great grandchildren, an aunt, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernie, Bruce, Ron and Chuck Grow, and a grandson in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Berean Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with military honors conducted by VFW Annis Fint Post #1584 and American Legion William C. Stark Post #97. Visitation will take place at Wagley Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Contributions in memory of Dick may be made to Hospice of Lenawee.
