Lawrence Bliesner Jr.

SAGINAW- Lawrence “Junior” Bliesner, age 98, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend was called to meet his Lord and Savior Saturday, February 17, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. Lawrence was born on February 27, 1925 in Blissfield, Michigan to Lawrence and Dorothy (Gaubitz) Bliesner. He was a proud member of Blissfield High School’s graduating class of 1943. Lawrence met the love of his life, Betty Phenicie, at the Lenawee County Fair and married her on October 27, 1946 in Hudson, Michigan. Their commitment and love for each other spanned 77 years. Lawrence enjoyed farming from a young age and made a career of it for over 60 years. He also worked at Tecumseh Products Co. for many years in addition to working on the farm. Lawrence and Betty built their lives together with their three children, Larry, Lori, and Laraine. Along with their years on the farm, they enjoyed spending winters in their Florida home. They were faithful members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palmyra. Lawrence and Betty moved to Saginaw, Michigan three years ago to be closer to family. Lawrence was a student of history and the news of the day. His knowledge made him a better resource than the encyclopedia or the Internet. It was difficult to find Lawrence without a newspaper in his hands. When newspapers became less popular, he adapted and learned how to get the news on his iPhone. Golfing was one of his favorite hobbies that he enjoyed well into his 90’s. He spent many days on the golf courses both in Florida and at home. His favorite golf companion was his granddaughter, Kelsey. Lawrence is survived by his wife Betty, daughter Lori (Terry) Griffing, and granddaughter, Kelsey of Saginaw, Michigan. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Bruce (Lynn) Phenicie, Burton (Marilyn) Phenicie, sister-in-law, Beverly Lightfoot, Carolyn Phenicie, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his son, Larry and daughter, Laraine Bliesner. He was also predeceased by sister, Betty McKee, brothers Robert, James, and Emerson Bliesner, brothers and sisters-in-laws Robert (Emma), William (Colleen), Burdette, James Phenicie, and Paul Lightfoot. A celebration of life for Lawrence will take place Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1500 North Blissfield Highway, Palmyra, Michigan with Pastor Rick Hogan presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield. Lawrence’s family deeply appreciates the love and attention he received from his caregivers, as together they helped him on his journey at the end of his life.
