Jack Bruce Orr

YPSILANTI- Jack Bruce Orr, age 72, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly at home Monday morning, November 11, 2024. Jack was born on June 14, 1952, in Adrian, MI, the middle child of Bruce D. and Beulah “Marie” (Nash) Orr. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1970 and went on to attend Siena Heights College earning his bachelor’s degree. It was during high school that Jack first noticed a pretty underclassman, Melissa Mitchell. Jack and Melissa dated off and on over the years until they made it official on September 24, 1977. They were married for 47 years during which they raised a family, traveled and created many lasting memories. Jack started his career in law enforcement where he was a police officer in Chelsea and Kalamazoo. Always up for a challenge, Jack moved on to be a special agent with the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration); and for over 20 years he was committed to making a difference in the communities he served and the fight against drugs in our country. After Jack retired from the DEA, he went to umpire school in Florida. This training allowed him to be active in one of his favorite sports, baseball. He was an umpire for many of the local schools in the area and truly enjoyed his role with the athletes. For many years he was an active member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He liked spending time outdoors whether it was hunting or fishing. Jack was a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions, even in the rough years. The Florida Keys was a favorite destination for Jack and Melissa during the cold winter months. Jack will be missed by his loving wife, Melissa; children, Katie (Rich) Birmingham and John (Brooke) Orr; and grandchildren, Jackson and Rebecca Orr. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Loren Orr and Sally McKinney. Following Jack’s wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian.
