Hilborn "Dwayne" Cantrell

BLISSFIELD – Hilborn “Dwayne” Cantrell, age 85 of Blissfield, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 3, 2017, at his home. He was born December 1, 1931, in Detroit, Alabama to Frank and Lillie (Jeffreys) Cantrell. On September 5, 1950, he married Clara “Sue” Williams on the way to Michigan, and they shared 58 years together. She preceded him in death in 2008. From humble beginnings to an entrepreneur who was never afraid to take a risk, Dwayne owned and operated numerous businesses He owned/installed storm doors, windows, awnings, garage doors, operated Hilltop Go-cart Track in Adrian, was a partner in Precision Machine Tool Adrian, founded Adrian Tool 1969, purchased Palmyra Tool Company, owned Lenawee Steel Treating & Welding, owned Jones Sealing Service, owned Nomar Industries, manufactured flare guns for the U.S government, owned Black Oxide Business, purchased Norton Equipment Corp. in 1974 which he owned and operated till present, purchased Gambles Hardware Store, owned Cantrell’s Music & Furniture stores in Blissfield and Monroe, owned Cantrell's Car Lot, used car sales, owned Cantrell’s Carpet and Flooring, owned Villager Apartments and Company Street Apartments, owned Norton Wood Stove Manufacturing Company, owned Cantrell Excavating, and owned Cantrell Orchards in Adrian and Addison. His success he attributed to honesty, old fashioned common sense and hard work. Dwayne is survived by his son, Scott Cantrell of Tecumseh, daughters-in-law, Monica of Blissfield and Linda of Manitou Beach; four grandchildren: Ryan (Lindsey), Brandon (Stephanie), Dean and Renee Cantrell; great grandchildren, Taylor, Ty, Lucas, Wyatt, Brody and Isabelle; and brothers, Dean and Hugh Don “Shot” (Lou An) Cantrell, both of Alabama. In addition to his parents and wife, Sue, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Cantrell, and siblings, Bill, Elaine, Melbe, Johnnie and Alvin in infancy. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2017, at Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel in Blissfield with Rev. Larry Betz officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Lenawee.
