Gary Lee Marzolf

MANITOU BEACH- Gary Lee Marzolf, age 80, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, surrounded by his family and close friends. Gary was born on June 7, 1946, in Morenci, MI, the oldest child of Oliver and Betty (Schoonover) Marzolf. He graduated from Morenci High School in 1964. On March 12, 1966, Gary married Valerie Smith in Clinton, MI and they were fortunate to share over 60 years together. Gary was an electrical linesman working for Consumers Power and later Consumers Energy, retiring after 35 years. He mainly worked in Lenawee and Monroe Counties, going wherever he was needed. Hurricane Katrina took him and many other linesmen down to New Orleans in 2005. After retiring from Consumers, Gary continued to work for electrical contractors and Power Control. He also started a business, Naturally Dash and Dredge, which removed invasive species from waterways. Gary enjoyed being outdoors and golfing with his family and friends. Some would say Gary was competitive when playing golf, no matter who he was playing. Gary would proudly agree with that statement. He was a member and past Commodore at the Devils Lake Yacht Club. Gary liked being out on the water sailing or pontooning in the summer; and ice boating in the winter. When it was time to get away, Gary and Valerie would head to Ruskin, Florida where they could relax and bask in the sun. It was years ago that Valerie encouraged Gary, along with several of their friends, to take some dance lessons. Gary embraced dancing and what started out as some disco moves transformed into ballroom dancing. Gary and Valerie made an excellent team both on the dance floor and off. In addition to his wife, Valerie, Gary is survived by their children, Todd (Toni) Marzolf and Lisa (Mark) Haag; grandchildren, Collin Haag, Lance Haag and Marla Marzolf; brother-in-law, Terry (Diane) Smith; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; along with many wonderful friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Connie (George) Pontious. Following Gary’s wishes cremation will take place. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Town’s End Events, located at 15951 Rome Road Manitou Beach, MI 49253 with Pastor Jack Clarkson officiating.
