Edna O. Tabbert

BRIGHTON, MI- Edna Ottilie Tabbert was called to be with the Lord in the eternal glories of heaven on Saturday, November 12, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born on June 26, 1923 in Adrian, Michigan to parents Herbert and Wilhelmina (Chormann) Bierlein. She graduated from Adrian High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University and a master’s degree from University of Michigan. Edna married Walter Tabbert in 1955 and was richly blessed with 67 years of marriage and a wonderful family, including daughter, Sharon (Mike) Jaska, and a son, David (Brenda) Tabbert; grandchildren, Michael (Sonja) Tabbert, James (Jenn) Tabbert, David (Katie) Tabbert, Timothy (Missy) Jaska, and Victoria Jaska; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her brothers, Adolph Bierlein and Leland Bierlein, and sister, Leola Hildebrandt. She was a 7th grade geography teacher in the Adrian Public Schools for 35 years. She and Walter were active members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Adrian until making their retirement home in Florida at which time they became active members of Bethel Lutheran Church in Clearwater, Florida. In 2018, they moved back to Michigan and took up residence at Independence Village in Brighton, and since that time, made Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hartland their church home. Besides her love of family, Edna was an active member of Island Park Recreation Club in Manitou Beach, Michigan (Round Lake). She enjoyed reading, playing bingo, and served as a volunteer transcribing books into braille for the blind. They were members of Highland Lakes near their home in Palm Harbor, Florida, where she enjoyed golfing, activities with the Midwest Club, Organ Club, and served with Walter in their neighborhood as block captains. We rejoice in the Lord for all of the blessings bestowed upon us through Edna, a good and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Funeral services for will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hartland, Michigan, with Pastor Christopher Thoma officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the start of the service. On Sunday, November 20, 2022 visitation will again be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home in Adrian, MI. Burial will be private at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Hartland, MI or CorsoCare Hospice.
