Darlene Jo Wegner

MORENCI- Darlene Jo Wegner, age 78, of Morenci, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. Darlene was born on February 26, 1948, in Adrian, MI, to Earl and Lois (Marine) Wagner. Darlene graduated from Tecumseh High School with the Class of 1966. She was employed at the Morenci Deli and Mike’s pharmacy in her earlier years. Darlene also worked at Kapnick Orchard where she would eventually meet the love of her life, Fred Wegner. The two were married on June 24, 1967, in Blissfield and were blessed with over 59 years of marriage and four children. Darlene and Fred worked on their family farm together where she spent countless hours driving tractor and milking cows. Darlene will be remembered as a kind and gentle person who went out of her way to help others and would go in need for herself while she provided for others. She was known for being a hard worker who was diligent and organized. From the house to the barn, everything had its place and was cleaned before being put away. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing where she made special pieces of clothing for her family members. Darlene’s baking and cooking skills will also be missed, especially her fried chicken and her Christmas cookies. Above all else, Darlene will be remembered for being a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother who always put her family first. In addition to her husband, Fred, Darlene is survived by their children; Lori Wegner-Hunt, Julie (Bill) Bippes, Jennifer Pummell, and John (Jamie) Wegner; sisters; Kathy (Doug) Goldsberry and Mary Ann Puffer; brothers-in-law, Tom (Anita) Wegner and Vernon Sell; 4 grandchildren, Nolan (Jazmin) Pummell, Scarlett Pummell, Brady Pummell and Abigail Wegner; great granddaughter, Alice Pummell; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters-in-law, Nancy Wegner and Linda Sell; and son-in-law Greg Hunt. Memorial visitation for Darlene will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian. Memorial services will take place on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Adrian, with Pastor Jonathan Torreson officiating. Family will be receiving friends at the church from 10:00 AM until the service begins. The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to all of the staff at Lenawee Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care they gave to Darlene and her family during her illness. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
