Cora Mae Phillips

BLISSFIELD – Cora Mae Phillips, 81, of Blissfield, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 15, 2011 at her home. Cora was born on March 9, 1930 in Blissfield, Michigan, the daughter of Edward and Dora (Caswell) Knierim. She graduated from Blissfield High School with the Class of 1947. On August 19, 1951, Cora married Earl P. Phillips in Blissfield, Michigan. They celebrated over 59 years of marriage before his passing on December 6, 2010. Cora devoted her life to her home and raising her children. She was a faithful member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church of Blissfield. In earlier years, Cora and her husband traveled regularly to Florida and visited many of the western states. They even took a trip to Hawaii, which was always Cora’s favorite. She enjoyed quilting and tending to her flower garden in her spare time. Cora also was gifted with special artistic talents of drawing, painting and writing poetry. Surviving are her children: Gary (Lori) Phillips of Blissfield; Sheryl (Dan) Chapman of Adrian; Keith (Brenda) Phillips, Barbara (Dennis) Mitchell, and Joy (Alan) Dickerson all of Blissfield; eight grandchildren: Alaina (Kelly) Hiatt, Shaunna (Adam) Smith, Gina, Kyle and Tyler Phillips, Stephen Mitchell, Jenna and Diane Dickerson; and six great grandchildren: Noah, Jonah, Anna and Micah Hiatt and Jillian and Weston Smith. Also surviving are three sisters, Gladys Kurtz of Adrian and Betty Knierim and Ileta Prisby both of Blissfield. In addition to her husband, Earl, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, five brothers and a great granddaughter, Hope Hiatt. The funeral service for Cora will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Blissfield with Rev. Aaron Kesson and Rev. Adam Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.
