Sandra Sue Meeks
October 10, 1941 - January 19, 2020
Sandy’s caring and compassionate spirit left this world on January 19, 2020. Born in Adrian on October 10, 1941, Sandy was raised and delighted in the charm of her hometown of Blissfield, to which she returned to enjoy her golden years. She raised two extraordinary children, Michelle L. McCormick (Timothy) and Louis W. Meeks II (Kelli). “Lolo” spoke with unbridled pride and passion of her four grandchildren, Kellen T. McCormick, Danielle E. McCormick, Louis W. Meeks III and Riley C. Meeks, all collegiate athletes. She was exceptionally devoted to her beloved Old English Sheepdog, Bella. Sandy was a proud graduate of Blissfield High School, (Class of 1959). She then went on to “the” University of Michigan with great honor in receiving her B.S. in Nursing and M.A. in Occupational Education. An accomplished registered nurse, she possessed an insurmountable level of insight and knowledge in the medical field, serving her profession with a quick intellect and wit. Later in her career, she passionately served as an instructional coordinator, counselor, and head nurse at Washtenaw Community College. Sandy will be remembered for her decades of service as an educator, caregiver and volunteer. She donated her time by serving her community on Blissfield Main Street subcommittees, the Blissfield Library Board, the Friends of Blissfield History, Potter’s Cemetery Association, Class of 1959 Reunion Planning committee, Alpha Gamma Delta Alumnae Housing Board, and as a Republican delegate for Lenawee County. Sandy also joyfully spent hundreds of hours researching her family’s genealogy. A committed supporter of these United States of America and all its freedoms, she was a fierce advocate of veterans and their service. Sandy is also survived by her brother, Roscoe (Carol) Gould; stepsisters, Betty (Bob) Landis and Sue (Lynn) Winzeler as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Norman Gould. A memorial service to honor Sandy's life will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (7623 Riga Hwy, Riga, MI 49276) at 11:00 a.m. The family will arrive at 10:00 a.m. to welcome those who wish to share memories and conversation prior to the service. A luncheon will be held following the service at Main Street Stable & Tavern (116 N Main Street, Blissfield, MI 49228). Arrangements were entrusted to Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel in Blissfield. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Lenawee Humane Society or The Village of Blissfield, (in the memo line, please state, “Parks Beautification Projects,” 130 S. Lane Street P.O. Box 129, Blissfield, MI 49228). Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at wwww.wagleyfuneralhome.com.
