June 12, 1922 - July 29, 2021
ADRIAN – Maria Blanca De La Cruz, 99, of Adrian died early Thursday morning, July 29, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family while under the compassionate care of Elara Caring Hospice. Born June 12, 1922 in Cotulla, Texas, she was the daughter of Ignacio and Otila (Martinez) Trevino. On October 18, 1941 Maria married Manuel De La Cruz at what is now Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, Ohio, and he preceded her in death. Maria was employed in the quality control department of American Chain & Cable for over 30 years until her retirement in 1982. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Holy Catholic Church in Adrian, as well as the Guadalupe Society. Known for her “green thumb,” Maria was a true gardener, whether it was flowers or vegetables, she loved tending to and caring for her gardens. She also enjoyed canning and cooking, she will be remembered for her tortillas, tamales, banana bread, empanadas made from fresh ingredients from her gardens, and her “famous rice.” In her spare time, she loved sewing and crocheting; but was happiest with her family, especially talking with her siblings as often as she could. Maria is survived by her daughter, Olga De La Cruz of Adrian; grandchildren, Ed (Shelley) Marquez and Monica (Curtis) Barfield; great-grandchildren Cheyenne (Rhett) Weathers, Zachery Barfield, Aliyah Marquez, and Gracyn Marquez; siblings, Dora Medina and Robert Trevino; numerous cousins; and a large extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, Manuel De La Cruz, Maria was preceded in death by her son, Manuel De La Cruz, Jr.; and her siblings, Ignacio Trevino, Jr., Angelica Gonzales, Flora Terrazas, Otila Salazar; and Dionicia De La Cruz. Mass of Resurrection will be on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, St. Mary’s Campus with Fr. Michael Newman, OSFS, celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and concluding with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, in Adrian. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church. To honor Maria’s memory, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.WagleyFuneralHomes.com.
