Linda Marie Hammerstrom
April 6, 1949 - June 12, 2021
ADRIAN – Linda Marie Hammerstrom She’s Gone- “You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she’d want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.” Linda Marie Hammerstrom came into the world on April 6, 1949, to Gerald and Faye Frye in Port Huron, Michigan. She was the oldest (and meanest) of the Frye Girls who remain to cherish her memory; Jeannine Wright, JoAnn (Doug) Spade, Rebecca Trevino, Faythe Emens, and Anita (William) Brueshaber; and her brother, Nicolas (Daniela) Cascarano. Linda graduated from Adrian High School in 1967. She married Richard Hammerstrom on September 5, 1970 and they shared more than 50 years of wedded bliss. Linda’s career path led her to care for many children and adult patients while serving in the medical field; first at Bixby Hospital as a nurse’s aide and then as a medical assistant at various doctor’s offices. She loved flowers, singing, puzzles, collecting angels, gardening, reading and dogs. Linda especially loved her four-legged Abby, who she leaves behind. Some of Linda’s fondest days were spent in the screen room of her back yard, enjoying nature and watching her precious pup play. Linda had many great friends with whom she shared her infectious laughter. She was known as “Aunt” to Jonathan, Jacob, Rebekah, Joshua, Eric, Diego, Ryan, Todd, Nicola and Franco; goddaughter, Sandy McLaughlin; “Ma” to Kelly Carter-Ranno; "Grandma Linda" to Renesa Callis-Hill and “Friend” to all who knew her. Linda is preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, Carl and Hazel Hammerstrom, and sister-in -law, Mary Ellen. After a courageous battle with lung cancer, Linda’s desire to die with dignity was fulfilled when on June 12, 2021 under the loving care of her sisters and Hospice of Lenawee, she took the hand of Jesus and flew away to the place that knows no pain or suffering. “I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done.” A special thank you for the compassionate care provided by the Hospice of Lenawee nurse aides, nurses and Dr. Voorhees. We also want to thank Pastor Dan Hayton of Newton, Iowa for his loving support to Linda in her final days. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 6 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian, with Pastor Debi Humphreys officiating. Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee.
