Kathryn Locke

August 21, 1927 - March 16, 2022

NAPA, CALIFORNIA- Hester Kathryn Locke, 94, formerly of Adrian, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 in Napa, California with family by her side. Kathie was born on August 21, 1927 in Cranberry Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, the fourth child to Leonard and Hester Kathryn (Smith) Cutshall. She graduated from Bethel High School with the Class of 1945. On September 4, 1949, Kathie married Francis A. Locke near Pittsburgh, PA and they were blessed with 66 years of love and memories. During their life together, Kathie and Frank moved around with his time in the United States Navy, along with finishing his education in Obstetrics/Gynecology. In 1959 they settled in Adrian, MI where Frank practiced medicine and they raised their family. Kathie was active in the community as a member of Matinée Musicale, the Adrian Garden Club, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid bridge player with Frank and hosted many bridge parties through the years. Kathie was very active as a musician and music teacher. She played violin in the Lenawee Community Orchestra and played in the pit for many musicals at the Croswell Opera House. She taught piano lessons for over 40 years to students in Lenawee County and was well known for her lessons to young students. She and Frank were active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Adrian, and for many years Kathie directed the Handbell Choir there. As a member of The Nomads traveling group Kathie and Frank traveled all over the world and made travel their favorite retirement activity. In 2015, Frank and Kathie moved to Napa, CA to live with their son, Tim. Family was the center of Kathie’s world and she loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Timothy Locke of Napa, CA, Rebecca (David) Hoffman of Vancouver, WA, Daniel (Marcy) Locke of Sandy, UT, James (Wendy) Locke of Sharon, MA and Lisbeth Locke of Adrian, MI; together with 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, brother Leonard, and sisters Betty Jane and Imogene. Visitation for Kathryn will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home in Adrian, MI. A funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church in Adrian with the Rev. Dr. Ann Marie Montgomery officiating.
