Katharine Elaine DeGroot

ADRIAN—Katharine DeGroot, age 88 of Adrian, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Lenawee. Katharine was born May 5, 1929, in Palmyra, MI, to Edgar and Louise (Bueher) Calkins. On August 1, 1948, Katharine married Robert ‘Bud’ DeGroot, they celebrated 66 years of marriage until his death in 2015. She enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, drawing and reading. Katharine was a faithful member of Raisin Presbyterian Church. She retired from J.C. Penney, Adrian. Katharine enjoyed her family, especially her son, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Michael (Sharon) DeGroot, of Britton; five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Bud, Katharine was preceded in death by her parents and a son, David; and siblings, Marian Ehlert, Harriet Reed and Richard Calkins. Funeral services for Katharine will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Wagley Funeral Home with Pastor Lance Wiesmann officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
