James W. Naismyth

May 19, 1930 - January 21, 2019

ADRIAN – James W. Naismyth, age 88 of Adrian, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019, at his home. He was born May 19, 1930, in Saginaw, Michigan, the only child of James and Charlotte (Kurtz) Naismyth. After graduating from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served during the Korean Conflict. On April 28, 1956, he married Myrna (Doud) Muttscheler in Saginaw, and they celebrated over 47 years together. She preceded him in death in 2003. Jim retired from General Motors with 30 years of service. He also worked as a deputy sheriff in Saginaw and a police officer in Saginaw Township. Jim was a Master Mason and member of Bowring Lodge #377 Standish. Additionally, he was a life member of both the American Legion Post #97 and AmVets Post #1957 as well as a long-time member of Good Sam RV Owners Club. Jim will be greatly missed by the family he so dearly loved including daughters, Nancy Saunders and Charlotte (William) Hardy, both of Adrian; grandchildren: Jay (Heather) Rottman, Troy (Lisa) Saunders, Lisa Watson, Thomas (Ruthie) Hardy, Jennifer (Jeremy) Saunders, Rebecca (Kevin) Peck, and Kevin (Katelyn) Hardy; and 15 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Myrna, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lana Rottman; son, Daniel Muttscheler; granddaughter, Rosie Hardy; and his faithful dog, Sally. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Wagley Funeral Home with Pastor Amy Gilhouse officiating and military honors conducted by American Legion Post #97 and VFW Annis-Fint Post #1584. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 8 p.m., and again Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service. Private burial will be at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw.
