Robert "Bob" Paul French

ADRIAN- Robert “Bob” French, age 74, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Promedica Charles & Virginia Hickman Hospital. Bob was born on February 29, 1952, in Adrian, MI, the son of Merlin and Donna (Elder) French. He was raised in Blissfield, graduating from BHS with the Class of 1970. Bob was a talented baseball player in his high school years and was offered an opportunity to go to the minor leagues for Kansas City but chose to stay home and have a family instead. In 1975 Bob married Kathy Knoth; and they were blessed with three daughters during their marriage. Bob embraced being a father and created many memories with his girls. Camping was a big part of their life for many years; this included Bob being the “unofficial lifeguard” and saving his daughter, Melissa, while swimming to pushing his kids and grandkids on the swings. He was known to stay up late and watch scary movies with his girls. Kayla remembers being told to hustle into bed and pretend you’re sleeping on more than one occasion when Mom was pulling in the driveway. Bob had a strong work ethic and had more than one job at any given time. He worked at Merillat Industries for 30 years, retiring after suffering a massive stroke. Bob also spent some of his working years with ADA security and as reserve police officer for the Adrian Police Dept. Bob enjoyed spending time out in his woodworking shop where he made beautiful creations, and his talents were on display. He was an avid sports fan and always made time for Michigan football, his Detroit Tigers and Lions, and watching NASCR with Dale Earnhardt being his favorite driver. He liked watching old tv shows and movies that included the Beverly Hillbillies, Andy Griffith, Sanford & Son, all the Rocky movies, Rambo and Karate Kid. Bob’s strength and determination which he displayed throughout his life were monumental in his recovery following his massive stroke. He regained his ability to walk and made incredible gains with his speech. Some would say Bob’s stubbornness came in handy when overcoming so many trials in his recovery. He faced each challenge with a smile on his face and optimism in his heart. Bob valued his family and knew they were his greatest treasure. Left to mourn Bob’s passing are his daughters, Melissa French of Manitou Beach and Kayla Ahearn (JJ Blaker) of Clinton; ex-wife and good friend, Kathy Knoth of Adrian. He was a proud papa to- Connor, Brayden, Noah, Hannah, Hayleigh all of Manitou Beach and Bryleigh, Raelynne, Lathan, Brecken, Ambrielle and Emberleigh all of Clinton; sister-in-law, Karol Goodwin of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI and brother-in-law, Rick Knoth of Springfield, MO.. He was proceeded in death by his parents Merlin and Donna French; oldest daughter Krista French; longtime friend, Bob Hall; and special pets Brandy, Andrea and Ember. Following Bob’s wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at Catalyst Church, located at 326 S. McKenzie St. Adrian.
