Olivia Gonzalez

ADRIAN: Olivia G. Gonzalez, 93 of Adrian, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility while surrounded by her family. She was born on August 15, 1918 in Cotulla, Texas, the daughter of Cosme and Jesusa (Salvidar) Gomez. Olivia married Eugenio Gonzalez in Britton, Michigan on September 27, 1941. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1969. Olivia was a devoted and loving full time homemaker. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Adrian. She enjoyed spending time with Family and friends, and the time she spent at the Senior Center. Her greatest joy was raising her children. Several summers she took her children to Bear Lake and Traverse City, Michigan to pick cherries and strawberries. While there, Olivia taught all the children the importance and value of a hard day’s work. Olivia's favorite pastime was gardening, which she enjoyed greatly. In addition to her husband Eugenio, she was preceded in death by a son, Raymond, a daughter Lucia, two infant sons,three sisters, Pilar Saldivar, Josefa (Pepa) Alafita and Andrea Cuellar and two great-grandchildren. Olivia is survived by eight children, Ofelia Avila of Toledo, OH, Margaret (John) Martinez of Adrian, Eugenio (Dorothy) Gonzalez of Mississippi, Susie (Dennis) Powlison of Adrian, Gilbert (Betty) Gonzalez of Adrian, Roy (Nancy) Gonzalez of Adrian, Tony (Carolyn) Gonzalez of Adrian and Steve Gonzalez of Adrian; 22 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. The Gonzalez family would like to extend thank you’s to the entire staff at Lenawee Medical Care Facility and the Hospice of Lenawee. They are especially grateful for April Crusinberry of Hospice. A funeral mass to celebrate the life of Olivia Gonzalez will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Adrian at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Bob Schramm as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Adrian. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wagley Funeral Home in Adrian. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Olivia to Hospice of Lenawee.
