Mona Kathleen Summers

ADRIAN- Mona Kathleen Summers, just two months shy of her 100th birthday, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Gaslight Village Assisted Living surrounded by the love of her family and support of Elara Caring Hospice. Mona was born on October 6, 1926, in Lyons, Ohio, one of eleven children born to Lewis and Ellis (Richardson) Baugh. The family moved to Michigan and Mona completed her studies graduating from Adrian High School. In May of 1947, Mona married Donald “Red” Summers and they were blessed with three sons. Even though she was outnumbered, Red and the boys knew Mona was the one in charge. Her organizational skills and efficiency were wonderful assets while managing the office for the family business Summers Construction and working as a short order cook for one of her sons when he owned the Hi-Lo Grill. When Mona married Red, she gained a large extended family as he was also one of eleven children; as you can imagine, family gatherings were loud and boisterous! Mona was very crafty and made many wonderful items using her knitting and crocheting skills. She played the piano beautifully and tried passing this musical gift on to her sons, which was a battle of patience at times. Mona’s devotion to her flower garden was always on display as she had flowers blooming three out of four seasons. She enjoyed being outdoors and watching the hummingbirds come daily to the bird feeders she had set up. Mona was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Adrian. Mona and Red were fortunate to be snowbirds for a while, spending time in Florida, before deciding Michigan was where they preferred to be year-round. Red passed away in October of 1998 after 51 years of marriage. She is survived by her sons, Charles (Linda) Summers and Clifford Summers; sister, Mazie; grandchildren, Aimee, Laura, Marsha, Emily, Lindsy, Andy, Xena and Eleni; great-grandchildren, Emilia, Noah, Even, Madalynn, Mary, Duke, Charlie, Beatrice, Averely, Addilyn, Andon, Katheryn, Taelyn, Kimberly, Melinda and Ayla; daughter-in-law, Shirley Summers; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband, Mona was preceded in death by her son, Roger Summers; and her siblings, Richard, Wayne, Hazel “Tootie”, Helen, Ruth, Thelma, Marjorie, Elsie and Nina. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian.
