Marjorie Goedert

ANN ARBOR – Marjorie “Marge” J. Goedert, 88, of Adrian, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. Born September 3, 1923, in Temperance, Michigan, Marjorie was the oldest child of Olin R. and Virginia (Parker) Hayden. In 1941 she graduated from Monroe High School. On May 27, 1943, Marjorie married Robert Goedert in Monroe, Michigan. They celebrated over 57 years of marriage prior to his death in 2001. Marge was an ordained elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Adrian where she was a faithful member for 54 years. She taught Sunday school, served as a youth group advisor, and also vice president of the Women’s Association. Marge was an integral part of the real estate business, Bob Goedert, Inc. Realtor & Builder, which later became The Goedert Company, for over 30 years. She was a member of the Lenawee Country Club and looked forward to dinners there with The Royals. Marge served on the board of the Associated Charities and was president of the Newcomers Club. She is survived by her children: Pamela (Bill) Esterline of Manitou Beach; Robert (Jo) Goedert of Houston, TX; Richard (Mary) Goedert of Saginaw, MI; and Mark (Becky) Goedert of Adrian; 12 grandchildren: Bryan (Cory) Esterline; Heather (Joe Lange) Esterline; Laura (Andy) Woodside; Melissa (Jason) Hughes; Tressa (James) Grantham; Shayna (Todd) Clark; Hillary (Brett) Henderson; Melissa (Tony) Calice; Sarah (Jeff Shelden) Wallace; Paula (Rob) Saganek; Dana (Blanche) O’Dell; and Kerin (Ross) Stover; 22 great grand children; and two sisters, Roberta Palmiter-Leipold of Monroe and Bonnie Janbor of Crossville, TN. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Charles Butler. The funeral service for Marge will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Adrian with Reverends James and Kathleen Splitt officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the Wagley Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church for the benefit of the Robert and Marjorie Goedert Endowment Fund.
