Helen M. Mountain

ADRIAN—Helen M. Mountain, 93 of Adrian passed away, January 6, 2017, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility from complications of Alzheimer’s. She was born November 10, 1923 in Dundee Township, Monroe County, daughter of Albert and Clara (Younglove) Schrader. Helen graduated from Deerfield High School. She worked at Bohn Aluminum, Plant #24 during World War II. She also worked for Adrian College on the custodial staff for 25 years, retiring December 1, 1985. She had been a resident of Adrian since 1946 having lived most of her earlier years in Deerfield. Helen married Frederick Saltz on March 9, 1946; he died on May 15, 1977. She was then united in marriage to Norman Mountain on July 20, 1984; he died on May 9, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Karl Schrader; sisters, Edna Wilson and Alma Mae Patke; son-in-law, Gerald Farley and a great granddaughter, Kate Brown. She is survived by two daughters, Linda M. Farley of Adrian, Kay Burgess of Litchfield, MI; two step children, Richard (Ida) Mountain of Adrian and Susan (Fuzzy) Manning of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI; five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great, great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews and many great friends. Helen enjoyed golfing, crossword puzzles, and most of all dancing with all her friends. Her life had been celebrated by all those she loved and who loved her. She also loved her special companion, “Mitzie”, her little miniature Schnauzer. She dearly loved her daughters, stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They meant the world to her. For many years she was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Linda. Treasure your mother’s love and smile; it’s truly a gift from God. Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Adrian and also the Deborah Circle. A special “Thank You” to the nursing staff at Lenawee Medical Care Facility for their tender loving care that was given to our mom, Helen. Funeral services will be held 1 pm, Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Wagley Funeral Home with Rev. Christopher Brundage officiating. Burial will be in Lenawee Hills Memorial Park of Adrian. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 8 pm and from noon until the time of the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the DayBreak Adult Services of Adrian, First United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
