George Burton Teller

MANITOU BEACH- George Burton Teller, a young 98, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Brookdale of Adrian, surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. George was born at home in Adrian, MI, on December 20, 1927, the son of Homer and Mary (Minch) Teller. He grew up in the area and graduated from Adrian High School in 1945. Barbara’s aunt rented a room from George’s parents above their neighborhood grocery store. When Barbara came to visit her aunt, she and George were introduced, and the rest is history. Their love story over the next 61 years was filled with many adventures including raising a family and starting a business together. Barbara passed away on November 26, 2011. Early on in George’s work career he sold life insurance. Barbara was already working in the real estate field when they decided to start their own business. George obtained his real estate license and in 1980 Teller Realty in Manitou Beach became a reality. George’s outgoing personality and humor made him a highly sought after agent and friend to all. His family would joke that his car was really his “other office” as he did so much work while on the road. Music was always a part of George’s life, and he was a talented trumpet player; performing whenever and wherever he could. He loved being out on the water no matter what season it was. George was a former member of the Devils Lake Yacht Club and enjoyed sailing and ice boating. He was known for his delicious homemade pizza and hosting parties where he would teach the next generation the art of making pizza. Friends and family could count on George to have a joke ready to share at any given time, he loved making people laugh. George was known for his devotion to his family and friends; and willingness to go out of his way to care for others both personally and professionally. His long marriage to his wife and best friend, Barbara, was a close partnership that brought them both great joy that spilled over to all those who knew them. George will be missed by his children, Barry (Penny) Teller and Renee (Rick) Bacon all of Adrian; 4 grandchildren, Shawn (Josh) Greenhill, Kary (Ryan) Luck, Kelly (Blaine) McDonald and Danielle Snyder; 3 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, Paige and Peyton Luck, Lauryn King, Justin Kohlruss and Nathan Morrison; 14 step-grandchildren and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara and brother-in-law, Cleve Peeke. Following George’s wishes cremation will take place. A private graveside service will take place at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Adrian at a later date. Memorial contributions in honor of George may be made to the American Cancer Society.
