Genevieve "Gennie" L. Hoffman

TECUMSEH – Genevieve “Gennie” L. Hoffman, 93, of Tecumseh died early Friday morning, September 9, 2022 at Cambrian Assisted Living under the care of Hospice of Lenawee, and the wonderful, caring staff of Cambrian Memory Care. Born on July 16, 1929 in Elkhart, Indiana Gennie was the oldest child of William and Clara (Owens) Berry. After graduating from Blissfield High School, Gennie went to work as a switchboard operator for the Adrian Telephone Company, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. On July 8, 1950 she married Gaylord Charles Hoffman in Angola, IN and they shared over 50 years of love and adventures before his death in 2001. For over 30 years Gennie worked at several dry-cleaning businesses in Adrian, including FabriCare and Stoners, before she retired in 2001. She was involved with the Adrian Moose Lodge when she was younger. She was a skilled seamstress and often family and friends would bring their clothing items to her for repairs and alterations. Gennie and Gaylord embraced raising their family and would regularly take family vacations all across the United States. No matter where they were traveling, Gaylord managed to find a baseball park where the family could attend a few games. Gennie was a true fan and supported her teams, cheering on her Toledo Mud Hens, Detroit Tigers and especially the Michigan Wolverines at the Big House. The title of grandmother was a role Gennie treasured and always made time for her grandchildren and many “greats” while creating wonderful memories. She is survived by her children, Janice (Danny) Moorehead and Robert (Susan) Hoffman; grandchildren, Jody (Lance) Clark, Scott (Becky) Moorehead, Jordan (Angela) Hoffman and Evan (Justine) Hoffman; great-grandchildren, Kylie (Caitlen) Williams, Tyler (Hillary) Williams, Emma Clark, Noah Clark, Mackenzie Hoffman and Emerson Hoffman; great-great-grandchildren, Malachi Williams and Logan Williams. Gennie was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord, and siblings, William Berry and Phyllis Miller. Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Wagley Funeral Home in Adrian. Private burial will follow at Palmyra Cemetery.
