Eleanor "Ellie" Mitchell

ADRIAN – Eleanor “Ellie” Roesch Mitchell, age 86 of Adrian, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016 at her home under the tender care of her family with the assistance of Hospice of Lenawee. She was born August 29, 1929, in Adrian, Michigan to Albert and Doris (Lee) Rizzise, and graduated with the Class of 1947 from Adrian High School. Ellie attended St. Louis Institute of Music, earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Adrian College, and completed her education at Siena Heights University with a Master of Arts Degree. She was married to Walter Roesch September 2, 1950, and he preceded her in death. On December 26, 1987, she married Samuel Mitchell, and he survives. Ellie retired from Adrian Public Schools after teaching music at Jefferson, Lincoln and Michener Elementary Schools for 24 years. She was a member of the Adrian Education Association and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. Ellie was a faithful member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she played piano for 60 years. In addition to her husband, Sam, she is survived by her children: Laura Roesch, Carol Ries and Shelley (Robert) Nieto all of Adrian, and Steven (Diana) Roesch of Hickory Corners, MI; grandchildren: Tony (Kristyn) Ries, Marisa (Tommie) Nieto-Lofton, Robert (Stacy) Nieto, Jr. Anna (Danny) Solis, Steven Roesch, Jr., Kathryn Newton, and Gina Roesch; and 13 great grandchildren; Sam’s children: Michael (Elaine) Mitchell, Marvin (Darlene) Mitchell, Martha Mitchell, Melissa (Jack) Orr, Mary Lou (Jeff) Patterson, Maureen (Marty Andrzejewski) Mitchell, and Samuel (Gayle) Mitchell; 17 step-grandchildren, 13 step-great grandchildren; and a special niece Cindy Polan. Besides her first husband, Walter Roesch, she was preceded in death by a sister, Adelaide “Riz” Pifer. A memorial celebration of Ellie’s life will take place at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Rev. Linda Farley officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from noon until the service.
