Charles Demey

Blissfield: Charles Maurice Demey, 92, of Blissfield passed away peacefully on January 3, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 30, 1918 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Julian and Elizabeth Eliza (DeVolder) Demey. On March 10, 1945 Chuck was united in marriage to Dorothy Handy. She survives. Chuck later married his second wife, Eleanor Rhinehart. Chuck worked as a farmer and also at Bohn Aluminum in Adrian for 34 years before retiring in 1980. Upon retirement, he continued farming many acres in the Blissfield area until retiring in May of 2004. He was a member of the Belgium/American Club in Erie, MI and also of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Blissfield. In his spare time, Chuck loved to collect unique rocks and polish them into beautiful pieces of jewelry and jewelry accessories. He also had a love for restoring old Model A’s when given the time. Chuck’s favorite times were spent traveling with his family to visit his daughter’s home in Vermont and he especially loved the trip’s he took with his three daughters back to his homeland of Belgium. Chuck loved life and had a wonderful sense of humor and he will be sadly missed by his family. Surviving are his three daughters, Carol (Jerald) Cousino of Adrian, Charlotte (William) Clough of Blissfield and Connie (Steve) Willard of Westford, VT; 1 brother, Victor (Elsie) Demey of Blissfield; 6 grandchildren, Sheila, Melissa, Debra, Joshua, Jacob Charles and Sam and 7 great-grandchildren, Chris, Amanda, Alexandra, Quintin, Brandon, Zachary Charles and Gavin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife, Eleanor Demey, 2 brothers, Camille and Maurice Demey, his sister, Pauline Jodts and a sister in infancy. Funeral services for Chuck will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 11 am at the Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel in Blissfield with his granddaughter Pastor Sheila Sword officiating. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery in Deerfield. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
