Veneda Raines

Veneda Raines, age 96, of Adrian, MI, passed away May 9, 2017, in the care of Hospice at Lenawee Medical Care. Veneda was born October 16, 1920, in Boons Camp, Johnson County, KY, to Paris and Virgie (Music) Penix. She was married to Arnold Raines for 46 years; he preceded her in death in 1986. Veneda is survived by 7 of their 8 children: Carlene Maxwell, Roger (Marilyn Lane) Raines, Judy (Michael) McAran, Linda (William) Cline, Johnie Rains, Kathryn Raines, and Robin Raines, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, siblings Bessie Davidson, Audrey ‘Bobbie’ Thompson, Richard Estill Penix, many nieces, nephews, “adopted” children, and good friends, especially Mary Howard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, son Terry, granddaughter Emily Convery, great-grandson Hal David Brown, son-in-law Jerry H. Maxwell, fiancé Emmett Oakes, her parents, and siblings Eunice Ward, Lillian Copley, Pauline Manis, Paris Penix, Jr., and Orville Penix. Veneda worked at Cunningham’s Drug Store, Mr. David’s, Kline’s, and The Donut Hole. Her family and friends will miss her kind heart, wonderful cooking, great sense of humor, and her love. “The example that she set for us in the way she lived her life helps each of us to cope a bit with our daily toils and strife. “ (Tribute to Mom, by J. Know that she meant these words she often said, “You are pretty…I love you.” Many thanks to the Church of God and the Church of Christ for being an important part of Veneda’s life. Visitation is at Wagley Funeral Home, 1501 W. Maumee St., Adrian, MI, on Friday, May 12, from 2-4 and 6-8; funeral services are Saturday, May 13, 2:00 pm, at the Adrian Church of God (Redemption Outreach Center), 704 Baldwin Hwy., Adrian, Mi., with Pastors Franklin Gunn and David King officiating. Veneda will be laid to rest with her son, Terry, at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh, MI.
